Seat. Location The Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School district is located in the Adirondack Park, in the community of Elizabethtown, New York. Elizabethtown is centrally located between Albany and Montreal and is approximately six hours from New York City. Lake Placid (home of the 1932 and 1980 Olympics) is only 35 miles away. It the other direction is Lake Champlain, only ten miles away. The district has a population of approximately 2500 people (Elizabethtown: 1,267 and Lewis: 922). The Elizabethtown area consists of 82 square miles, while Lewis has 84 square miles. The community is the county seat for Essex County, housing many state, county, and judicial agencies, such as the Essex County Office Complex (which employs many district/county residents), the Community Hospital, Nursing Home and many small businesses. The entire region of the district consists of quaint rural communities, exceptional hunting/recreational areas and the always outstanding beauty of the Adirondack Mountains. General School Information Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School is a public school consisting of one building with approximately 400 students, K-12. Our administrative staff consists of a Superintendent of Schools, Principal and Treasurer. Approximately 45 teaching faculty and about 30 support staff are employed by the school district. The district works cooperatively and collaboratively with the Parent, Teacher, Student Association (P.T.S.A).
